Welcoming Committee for Bute's 'Balliemore Cup Final' Winning Team!
'The Buteman' newspaper published the following on Monday 25th July:

A CROWD of almost two hundred people gathered at Rothesay pier on Sunday evening to welcome Bute Shinty Club's Balliemore Cup winners back on to home soil.

Goals from Roberto Zavaroni and Robert Walker helped the island club to a 2-1 win over Caberfeidh in Portree on Saturday to give Bute their third Balliemore triumph in eight years.

Three pipers played the squad off the ferry shortly after 6pm on Sunday, and the players and their supporters - around 70 of whom had made the long journey to Skye to cheer the team on in the final - promptly boarded West Coast Motors' open top bus for a lap of honour around the town before a welcome reception at the home of club sponsors Mac's Bar.

Bute coach Barry Martin told us: "It was an emotional moment to have those pipers play us off the ferry - it'll be a great memory for the players to treasure in the future.
