BBC Radio 5 Live & BBC Radio Shetland to Broadcast from Mareel Today

From 2pm to 4pm today BBC Radio 5 Live's
Kermode and Mayo,
starring Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo, will be broadcast live from
Mareel in Shetland.
Mark will be in the upstairs Café Bar
interviewing Screenplay guests such as
Bill Forsyth, and also Shetland Arts' own Head of Development,
Kathy Hubbard, about the excellent selection of screenings at
Shetland's sixth annual film festival taking place in the new venue
until Sunday 9th September.
2012 runs from 31st August to 9th September and
is curated by celebrated film critics Mark Kermode Linda Ruth
Williams. It features a feast of film screenings, lectures and
panel discussions involving national and international film
industry professionals and film academics.
This will be the first ever live national
broadcast from Mareel, the UK's most northerly music, cinema and
creative industries centre. BBC Radio Shetland's Good Evening Shetland was
broadcast locally from the venue in August. Parts of Good Evening Shetland
will be broadcast from Mareel again tonight, and the show will
include interviews with Mark Kermode, Bill Forsyth, and local
filmmakers Marjolein and Dirk Robertson.
Situated in a prominent quayside area in
Lerwick next to the Shetland Museum and Archives, Mareel has
a live performance auditorium, two cinema screens, rehearsal
rooms, a recording studio, education and training spaces, a digital
media production suite, broadcast facilities and a cafe bar with
free high speed wi-fi internet access. Mareel will provide a year
round programme of film, live music, education and other
Director of Shetland Arts, Gwilym Gibbons,
said, "We are absolutely delighted that Kermode and Mayo will be
broadcast from Mareel on BBC Radio 5 Live this afternoon. The team
are busy setting up the broadcast equipment in the upstairs Café
Bar right now, and it looks set to be an excellent show with a
packed programme of Screenplay events to
discuss. We are also pleased to welcome back BBC Radio Shetland
this evening for a great show which will include interviews with
both local and national Screenplay
Mayo starts at 2pm today on BBC Radio 5 Live. Good Evening Shetland
starts at 5.30pm on BBC Radio Shetland.
