Aidan Moffat & Bill Wells to Play Special One-Off Concert

Incredible Scottish musical duo Aidan Moffat and Bill Wells will play a special one-off concert in Mareel on Saturday 8th December, accompanied by a full 5-piece band, showcasing tracks from their Scottish Album of the Year Award winning Everything's Getting Older, as well as some brand new songs for the lucky Shetland audience. This event has been organised by DF Concerts and Events in association with Shetland Arts.

A collaboration eight years in the making, Aidan Moffat and Bill Well's paths first crossed in 2003 when Aidan's band Arab Strap invited Bill to contribute some music to their new album, Monday At The Hug & Pint. It was then that Aidan and Bill (a respected bassist, pianist and experimental jazz composer) resolved to make an album together, with the first recordings taking place shortly after the Hug & Pint sessions.

The end product, Everything's Getting Older, was an unmitigated success: winning awards and garnering widespread critical acclaim. Thoughtful and reflective, with Bill's poignant scores underpinning Aidan's increasingly peerless lyric writing, Everything's Getting Older is now one of the albums of the year.

Shetland Arts Marketing Officer, Lisa Ward, said: "We are privileged to welcome Aidan and Bill, and their band, to Mareel for this one-off gig. I'd strongly advise those who are interested in seeing this unique performance to buy their tickets now, as this really will be a special evening. We're very pleased to have secured such a rare one-off performance by these award-winning home-grown musicians, and we hope to see music-fans Shetland-wide coming out to enjoy this concert."

Wells and Moffat have created a stunning album that assures us that death and decay is to come, but equally, they tell us, there is life still to be lived, and music like this to be heard. The album's penultimate track sees the birth of a child, with Moffat declaring, "All life is finite, so use your time wisely, look after your teeth… and remember, we invented love, and that's the greatest story ever told."

Tickets are available now via Shetland Box Office in Mareel and Islesburgh, over the phone on 01595 745 555 or 01595 745 500, or online at or
